For our tenth anniversary, my husband and I had the most romantic getaway. As pretty active people, we wanted a place where we could relax, but where we wouldn’t get bored just lying around. We had both played golf before and wanted to improve our swings, so we chose a 5-day, 4-night package at a fantastic luxury golf resort.
The place took my breath away from the moment we drove up. There were several stately mansions, an amazing pool, and of course, acres of lush greens. We checked into our room mid-afternoon and decided to rest for a while, enjoying our complimentary bottle of champagne on our large private balcony. Soon enough, it was time for our first spa treatment: a couple’s massage. During our 90-minute session, I felt the stress of my job and everyday life begin to melt away. It really put us in vacation mode. After the massage, we headed to dinner in one of the resort’s many onsite restaurants. Our delicious meal was followed by an entertaining show.
The next morning my husband and I woke up bright and early for a private lesson with a golf coach. He gave us some great pointers. We put our golf game on pause for a while to have a laid-back breakfast. Although it was enjoyable, we couldn’t wait to get back on the course and practice our newly-learned techniques. We fell into a rhythm for the rest of the vacation. Our entire mornings were dedicated to golf, with my husband coaching me, as he had more experience than I did. After lunch, we spent time exploring the resort, riding horses, playing tennis, and lounging by the pool – to name a few activities. Each night at dinner, we sampled creative and delectable meals, accompanied by fine wine.
Slowly but surely, our dream vacation came to an end. On the last night, we had a mud bath in the spa and then ordered room service for dinner. I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful and intimate holiday for the two of us. I hope we can go to another golf resort soon.
